Hi,

We had have an issue with one of our DC recently, we've got about 15
DCs throughout the city and recently we constantly get "rpc server
unavailable" particualary when we connect tot the server via AD UC for
Administration.

We got this issue last weekend and rebooted the server and it was
working fine for a few days but the error came back again today. I ran
dcdiag and got the following errors.

* Network Logons Privileges Check
[Servername] An net use or LsaPolicy operation failed with
error 64, Win32 Error 64.
......................... Servername failed test NetLogons

Checking machine account for DC Servername on DC Servername .

* The File Replication Service SYSVOL ready test

error 64, Win32 Error 64.

SYSVOL. The

error returned was 64 (Win32 Error 64). Check the FRS event
log to

see if the SYSVOL has successfully been shared.

Starting test: FsmoCheck
GC Name: \\Servername.cn.asia.ad.pwcinternal.com
Locator Flags: 0xe00001fc
Warning: DcGetDcName(PDC_REQUIRED) call failed, error 1355
A Primary Domain Controller could not be located.

I get several of this error in EvetLog

Event Type: Error
Event Source: NetBT
Event Category: None
Event ID: 4321
Date: 2008-7-25
Time: 22:45:23
User: N/A
Computer: Servername
Description:
The name "CN :1d" could not be registered on the Interface
with IP address 10.157.100.1 The machine with the IP address
10.157.100.2 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

also checked the Netlogon and Sysvol and both were not accessable.

Can anyone provide some hints on the issue, the server is dual NIC we
use one NIC for backup with (192.x.x.x IP) but disable DNS and DNS
registration on this NIC and also netBIOS.

But what I find is that this NIC somehow manages to register itself
into DNS with the servername, I'm not sure if this is the cause of the
issue.

I've ran nltest to check the sc_verify and sc_query and both seem to
be fine.

many thanks

Cheers

I can absolutely guarantee you will have problems with a dual nic dc.
Disable the second nic and see if your problems go away.

Hello Zeno,

Multihoming Domain controllers is a solution which creates more problems
then providing solutions. So first get rid of this kind of configuration.

Event id 4321:

Sysvol netlogon problem:

I have a query because the reason we have 2 NICs is we use one
exclusively for backup, and the other for public, on the backup NIC
we've aleady disabled NetBIOS and DNS but it still seems to register
the NIC itself in the AD DNS zone.

Additionally is there a proper way we can actually configure dual NICs
on a DC?

So far I've disabled the backup NIC and seems to working on so far
have to wait and see, the strange thing is this DC has been running
with 2 NICs for over a year and this problem only started these last 2
weeks.

Many thanks
