*I had the same problem and discovered the fix in the Vista Control
Panel. This should work for ANY type of laptop. You need to do the
following:*

*Click on "Start"*
*Click on "Control Panel"*
*Click on "Power Options"*
*Click on "Choose what closing the lid does"*
*Go to "When I close the lid" and choose "do nothing" from the dropdown
menu. Do this for "On Battery and/or when Plugged in.*
*Be sure to choose "save settings" prior to closing.*

*Good Luck!*

* :geek:*

*Vista Laptop blank screen after lid close*
I recently bought a new Toshiba laptop with Vista preinstalled. Since
the
first day I owned the screen seems to randomly go black. The
backlighting is
still on, just a black display. It seems to do it more often after the
lid
has been closed and reopened from hibernate mode. I thought it was the
display driver so
I installed the most recent one from the ATI site. No luck! Anyone know
a
solution?

Pienipäistä moraalia, suuret toleranssit.

Jälleen kerran asiaa, jota maassamme tuskin kourallinen edes tietää. OL-3
työmaan mokailut on jo alansa klassikoita.
painostaen vaikenemaan. No työläiset ovat siis kuukausimääriä lekailleet
haperia puolalaisia suojapellinkuoria paikoilleen. Metalliosissa todetut
massiiviset tuumaluokkaiset megatoleranssivirheet on toki jo niineen

yksinkertaisesti UNOHTUNUT moinen pikku nyanssi. Ranskassa kun sellaisia
turhakkeita ei oltu ikään kuin "totuttu" käyttämään haihdutustornien takia.
Paljonkos sellaiset poistokanavat mahtipontisia ydininsinöörejä kiinnostaa?
No tuumasta toimeen ja summamutikassa lyijykynällä kämmensyrjällä kuvaan
hutaistaan kanavalle räjäytysreikä. Joten se siitä ja koko työmaa uusiksi!
No kanava saadaan ja kaikki huokaisevat, ettei lehdistö saanut vihiä ja
naurut jäi tulematta. Meni taas muutama tovi. Lieneekö ollut tämä
puolalaisorja, tuskin koska ydinalalla älykkyyttä ei suvaita toki. Kaveri
ahdas. Juu ei mitään senttejä, ei edes kymmeniä. ..Niin kunnon OL-3 tyyliin
heittoja METREISSÄ ja USEAMPI! .

No sitten aivoriihtä pystyyn, että miten moka taas salataan ja
miljarditappiot piilotetaan? No yhtä kaikki megasuurta piikkausta, kun
räjäyttelyt sortaisivat koko ydinhyyskän. Voi kuvitella mitä metrien
levyinen piikkausurakka tarkoittaa? No ehkä räjäyttely ei olisi ollut
lainkaan tuomassa lisäriskejä silti? 17.05-08 lehdet kun häpeillen TVO:n
megamokia kertoilivat miten Olkiluodon seinät suorastaan tursuavat sinne jo
valmiiksi kätkettyjä ties mitä räjähdysaineistusta. Oli löytynyt kuulema
niin paljon ja lukuisista paikoista, että. .. no hei kun moka on tehty, niin
syyllistetään ketä käsiin saadaan. Eli asia on mennyt nyt poliisitutkintaan!
No mitä uutta ydinalalle tässä enää on, en todella tiedä. Mutta ehkä näin
suomalaispoliisivyörytyksellä saadaan ydinvoimalatyömaan pian 80 % <
ulkomaalaisorjajoukkojen sekaan viimein myös
suomalaisbroletariaatipoliisitutkijoita! Hu heijaa, menee taas ydinalamme
niin sotkuiseksi, ettei näitä maassamme lisäkseni kukaan edes osaa, saati
tiedä tiedottaa. No tässä mitään, TVO:kin puolusteli, ettei valmiiksi
miinoitettuja ydinvoimalan seinämiä kannata ihmetellä saati surra!? Toki,
toki, mutta miksei? No koska jopa Areva on jo pitkään sen kiteyttänyt
käyttökelvottomaksi käsiin "räjähtäväksi jo alkujaan epäonnistuneeksi
koekyhäelmäksi". Ja taas ydinaiheesta lisää jahka saan naurultani
näpyteltyä.)

-I'm having the same problem and it makes me crazy. I have turned off
the hovering feature in the Ease of Access Center. The problem will be
fixed for awhile, but then it will return, without my having changed any
settings.

Posting in this forum seems buggy, as well. There's no bar showing me
where my words begin....When I tried to edit my post, this screen froze.
I had to start all over again. What's up with that?

*Sigh*

PostPosted: Wed Dec 10, 2008 3:17 pm    Post subject: Re: Vista boot Stuck on a black screen with a mouse cursor Reply with quote

I've been wrestling with the exact same problem on a Dell Studio 1535
running Vista Home Premium Sp1 for 2 days now and have finally fixed it!
Well...kinda.....

Searching around the net shows that its not a single issue that is
causing this problem for everyone so if what I found doesn't help you
try some of the other solutions.

Like most of you, this laptop loads up fine, and after you login the
Welcome screen comes up for a few seconds as per normal then a
completely black screen comes up....the mouse cursor is there but
nothing else comes up. On this laptop the HD was going bat**** for a
while as well but no matter how long you leave it for it never gets to
the desktop. No combination of key pressing, windows keys works.
Ctrl-Alt-Delete takes you back to that familar screen but selecting task
manager doesn't do anything.

System Restore does not work. Start up repair says everything is A-OK.

After much mucking around I finally got into the system by doing a Safe
Mode with Command Prompt startup. At the prompt I disabled all startup
and services using MSCONFIG. Upon reboot the system booted up fine. Many
hours later I had the system back up and running with all services and
startup items....all except for the Windows Event Log. As soon as you
enable that - BINGO! Black Screen after login.

I did try resetting my ATI graphics back to VGA. The various registry
checks and fixes - all to no avail.

So at the moment, the laptop is bootable and usable....just the Event
Log is disabled.....until I can work out whats going on there.

Hope that helps somebody ;)

I installed TortoiseSVN client on my Vista laptop yesterday, and it had
me reboot. Now it will continuously reboot once it gets to the login
screen. Even if I try to login quickly, it tells me my password is
incorrect and proceeds to reboot again (it reboots even if I don't try
to login and just leave it alone).

I can boot with "Last Known Good Configuration" just fine. All my
programs are there and everything works like it should, eve
TortoiseSVN.
But, the next time I reboot, it goes back into its endless reboot
cycle.

How can I make the "Last Known Good Configuration" stick, or otherwise
fix this problem.

Just an FYI, I have run the diagnostics from the boot menu and it
didn't
find anything wrong.

Thank you!

Brian

I had the same problem. I solved it with a re-install of the SVN client
with a lot of stuff disabled. I detailed this in a post on my blog:

'Continuum Drift - TortoiseSVN on Vista 64-bit Ultimate BlueScreen
(Solved)'

Promising news!!!!!

It looks like Nortel has released documentation that details a new
client called the Nortel VPN Clent release 10.01. These documents are
dates 2008-12-08.

Quote:
Nortel VPN Client release 10.01 is a completely new Nortel VPN Client
for the
Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. Changes to the GUI include
creating
Internet Protocol security (IPsec) and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)
profiles using a
wizard and main GUI, as well as configuring proxies, launching
applications,
managing options, importing certificates, and using a third-party API.
There is
also a redesigned status monitor and system tray icon. Release 10.01
runs only on
the Windows Vista operating system. The great news is that it was designed exclusively for Vista and will
release in both an x86 and _*x64_version*_! I do not see a download link

yet for the executable, but the PDF documents are available.

it, it says that it cannot locate the .bat file? I'm so confused! Cuz
I'm opening the file that it says it cannot find! So, someone please

PostPosted: Thu Dec 11, 2008 3:06 am    Post subject: >_< vista keyboard typing errors Reply with quote

The very same thing happened to me just recently... That being the first case, the second case that happened to me was that some keys just don't respond whenever I press them. I usually have to turn on the CAPS LOCK for it to type the letters I want... And I don't think it's dirt that's causing it.

I listed some of the errors I got in the first one:
E; opens My Computer
R; opens Run
T; switches windows
U; opens Ease of Access Center
F; opens Find
L; locks Computer
M; minimizes all windows

I think I may have missed some errors... and I'm now currently experiencing the second error. Q, W, E, R and some others aren't responding, copy pasting the letters while I type... >_<

The Windows key (the one that looks like the Windows flag) is stuck. Tap it
several times to loosen it up. Restart the computer. If all else fails,
replace the keyboard.

Hi Paul/mbobh767,

Here's the short version for fixing sidebar startup, though do please
bear
in mind your problem may not be the same as the one I had. Even though
this
shouldn't do anything bad, make sure (as always) that your data is
backed up
first.

Before we start, check that it's not some real simple issue. Go to
the
Start Menu, click 'Run', enter 'sidebar' (don't type the quotes).
We'll
assume that sidebar didn't just start, and so we'll continue with the
dll fix
with the next four steps:

1. To start an 'elevated' command prompt (not just a normal command
prompt):

- Go to 'Start Menu', 'All Programs', 'Accessories', right-click
'Command
Prompt' and on the submenu, select 'Run as administrator'

You'll get a pop-up window or two asking if you're happy to do this,
confirm
them.

(When the command prompt does appear, check in the title bar that it
says
"Administrator: Elevated Command Prompt")

2. In the command prompt, type:

cd "\Program Files\Windows Sidebar"

(you need to enter the quotes, make sure you use the double-quote ")

Your command prompt should now say, "C:\Program Files\Windows
Sidebar>"

3. Type in the following, pressing enter after each one:

regsvr32 -u ATL.DLL
regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll
regsvr32 -u wlsrvc.dll

regsvr32 ATL.DLL
regsvr32 sbdrop.dll
regsvr32 wlsrvc.dll

(you may get an error after regsvr32 -u ATL.DLL, just keep going with
the
next ones anyway)

4. Try running sidebar again, if you had the same problem as I did,
then
hopefully it will come up!

If you have trouble with this, let me know what messages you're
getting.

Thank You so much SStarman, this problem has been driving me crazy for
a while now! I made this account just to thank you because of the effort
you must have put in order to fix this problem!!! :D
