Is your NIC driver as current as possible?

Hello Brock,
Make sure you use the latest NIC drivers. Any additional errors in the event
viewer? Do you use some other softwware that depends on snmp and there is
a conflict between them?
Read also a posting where a hotfix should be available also for 2003. All
info's i found on the web are for 2008/vista. So i would call MS support.
Hotfixes are free so no additional cost.
Best regards

Hello,
The first thing we did was ensure we had the latest network card drivers.
I believe the issue may be related to the /3GB switch enabled in the
boot.ini file.
We have removed the /3GB switch and rebooted, the problem has yet to repeat.
I'll update if it repeats.
Thanks,
-B

Hello,
This is just a Web Server (IIS6), fairly new as well.
We have yet to receive reports since removing the /3GB switch. We should
know by tomorrow if that resolved the issue as it was only taking a few
hours to fail previously.

If that's the case then you may just be running out of page table
entry (PTE) space or non-paged pool and need to use the /USERVA switch
to give back some of the 3GB address space back to the app or OS so as
not to starve PTEs and your non-paged pool. I've had good success with
using /3GB /Userva=2944 which allocates 128MB for PTEs and non-paged
pool. If it still acts odd, try increasing by 16 or 32MB increments
and see if you can find a happy balance. By the way, this machine does
have 4GB, yes?

Hello,
It does appear removing the /3GB switch resolved the issue; it has yet to
repeat.
Thank you for the detailed reply here, I will certainly look into the
possible settings.
Thanks,
-B
p.s. yes 4GB
